Beacon saves injured Ōtorohanga farmer

A lone Waikato farmer who dislocated his hip on remote farmland was found thanks to a locator beacon.

He's was unable to move but activating the device meant he was able to signal that he needed help.

The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to the Ōtorohanga farm after 10am on Thursday, a Philips Search and Rescue Trust statement said.

The crew were able to track his location through his signal.

The farmer was airlifted to Waikato Hospital where he was sedated before having his hip fixed.

His case was a perfect example of why farmers working alone, or in remote locations, should carry locator beacons at all times, the statement said.
